Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on Friday has dismissed reports linking the Argentine superstar with a move to the blue half of Manchester.
Lionel Messi has been strongly linked with a move away from Spain with various clubs keen on the football ‘god’ following his vocal burst up with Barcelona’s sporting director Eric Abidal.
The current premier league champions are among other clubs who have been reported by various outlets for having an eye set on the six time Ballon D’or winner but Pep expects Messi to stay with the Catalan giants.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s premier league clash with West Ham the ‘Cytizen’ manager was quick to put cold water on the gossip.
“Messi is a player for Barcelona”, Guardiola told reporters.
“He will stay there. That is my wish. I am not going to talk about players at another club.”
“I think he will finish his career there.”
Messi has a clause in his contract which would allow him to leave Barca on a free transfer this summer if he wants to.
Guardiola worked with Messi at Barcelona during his successful spell in Spain from 2008 to 2012 winning 14 trophies together.
