Manchester City has announced that Raheem Sterling has signed a new three-year contract extension Friday evening, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2023.

The 23-year-old gives the Citizens a huge boost after committing his future to them, as they head into their highly anticipated derby clash against United on Sunday, and is expected to bag a whopping £300,000 a week on this new deal.

The pacey England attacker claimed he was thrilled to have penned the new deal, and reiterated his confidence in City being the best place to continue improving his game.

“I’m delighted to sign,” he said. “My development here has been incredible.

“I felt from the minute I got here it was the right choice for me. It’s paid off and I’m really grateful.”

Txiki Begiristain, Director of Football at Manchester City was full of praise for the former Liverpool player and expressed delight at him for clearing every doubt surrounding his commitment to the club.

He stated, “this is a significant moment for the Club. Raheem has improved dramatically in the past two seasons and is now one of the Premier League’s best attacking players. His statistics tell their own story.

“He’s quick, strong and excellent in front of goal – everything a modern-day forward needs to excel.

“We’re all delighted he has committed his future to City.”

Sterling joined City from Liverpool in the summer of 2015 for £49 million, having won the 2014 Golden Boy award and garnering a reputation as one of the brightest prospects in the game.

His first season with Pep’s side saw him score 11 in 46 games as City won the League Cup and reached the Champions League semi-finals, losing 1-0 on aggregate to Real Madrid.

Sterling played a central role in City’s best-ever feat last season, scoring 23 and assisting 17 in 46 games across all competitions- contribution which helped the team win the English Premier League and Carabao Cup.

The England international hence has been directly involved in 40 Premier League goals since the start of last season, and has been phenomenon since the start of this season with seven goals in 14 appearances.
