This Man Said Football is More Important Than Life and Death

When boys gather to watch football, give it their attention and shout a little, some girlfriends and wives feel irritated for being ignored.

If you ask a lot of guys today whether the sport is more important than life and death, they will say no. And rightly so, because such an idea really is a stretch.

Then guys of today deserve some credit; some peace to watch a little soccer without getting bashed by the women in their lives.

Because a man once said that football is way more important than life and death.

If you don’t know who did, it is Bill Shankly – a former Liverpool coach well remembered by the club for taking over and transforming Liverpool from a second division club to a trophy-winning club in England and in European competitions. A statue of him stands outside Liverpool’s home ground, Anfield.

Bill Shankly is known for having said:

“Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.”

In case you’re wondering whether he was misunderstood or taken out of context, the former Liverpool coach repeated himself for emphasis during a TV chat show in 1981. He told the host:

“Someone once said to me: ‘To you football is a matter of life or death!’ and I said ‘listen, it’s more important than that”

At this moment, today’s women need to allow the men to enjoy football all they want. Because today’s men don’t even take it half as seriously as Bill Shankly does.
