Brains are at work in China. The country has opened the longest suspended “cycleway” in the world capable of carrying 2,000 bicycles per hour. Though not the first of its kind in the world, this cycleway in the city of Xiamen is arguably the longest.

The 7.6 kilometre cycleway covers the city’s five major residential and three business centers and has 11 entries connecting it with 11 bus stations and two subway stations.

The Xianmen cycleway intended to promote green transport, is currently on a one-month test and is open daily to public and private bicycles from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm.

Let’s see how this feat of engineering does in reducing motor traffic and emissions, and increasing the use of bicycles.
